Bottle Preparation
Successful bottle and beverage photography begins with careful preparation. Before photographing a bottle, we clean the glass thoroughly to remove fingerprints, dust, smudges and minor surface marks that can become highly visible in close-up product photography.
Once the product is cleaned, we assess the bottle shape, label placement, closures, foil details and overall presentation. Proper preparation helps ensure the bottle photographs cleanly and consistently, and reduces unnecessary distractions during post-production.
Bottle Presentation
Presentation is an important part of bottle photography. The way a bottle is positioned affects how the camera captures its shape, the clarity of the label, the colour of the liquid and the way light and reflections move across the glass.
Our goal is to present the product in a way that feels refined, balanced and true to the brand. For beverage products, this often means carefully controlling the relationship between the bottle, the label, the glass surface, the liquid colour and the surrounding highlights and shadows.
A successful bottle image should clearly communicate the product itself while also showing important details such as bottle shape, contents, label design, foil texture, embossing and finish.
Bottle Photography Angles
Choosing the right angle is essential in bottle and beverage photography. The most suitable view depends on the bottle shape, label design and intended use of the image.
A front-facing view is often the most common starting point because it presents the label clearly and shows the bottle shape in a clean, direct way. In some cases, the bottle may be rotated slightly to improve symmetry, reduce glare or achieve better label alignment.
Additional views may also be photographed where needed, including angled views, side views, grouped bottle arrangements or close-up detail shots. These extra images can be particularly useful for eCommerce, catalogues and product marketing where customers need a more complete understanding of the product.
When a back label creates visual distraction in a front-facing image, post-production techniques can be used to reduce its visibility while maintaining a natural and professional result.
Lighting, Glass and Reflections
Lighting is one of the most technically important parts of bottle and beverage photography. Glass is highly reflective, and every bottle interacts with light differently depending on its shape, transparency, colour, finish and contents.
In our studio, we use controlled lighting to manage reflections, preserve clean bottle edges, maintain label visibility and reveal the colour and depth of the liquid. This is particularly important for wine, spirits and other beverages where the bottle contents are part of the product presentation.
Rather than removing all reflections, the aim is to control them carefully. Well-managed highlights help define the contours of the bottle, communicate the finish of the glass and create a natural sense of dimension. At the same time, we minimise distracting glare, hotspots and unwanted reflections that can interfere with label readability or reduce image quality.
We also consider the mood and presentation style required for the final image. Some bottle photography is designed for clean white-background eCommerce use, while other projects may require a richer, more atmospheric result for advertising or campaign purposes.
Showing Label Detail and Product Finish
In bottle photography, the label is often one of the most important product elements. Customers need to be able to clearly read and recognise the brand, product name and packaging design.
For this reason, we pay close attention to label sharpness, alignment and lighting. Our photography process is designed to preserve important packaging details such as paper texture, embossing, foil accents, metallic finishes and subtle colour variations.
These details are especially important for premium wine, spirits and specialty beverages, where packaging plays a major role in communicating quality and brand identity.
Bottle and Beverage Photography Post-Production
Professional post-production is an essential part of creating polished bottle photography. Once the images are captured, we refine them through detailed retouching and image finishing to ensure each file is clean, consistent and ready for use.
Post-production may include:
background removal
colour correction
label enhancement
dust and blemish removal
reflection cleanup
cropping and alignment
tonal balancing
preparation of web and high-resolution files
Where required, we also refine the visibility of the liquid colour, improve clarity in darker bottles, and ensure the final image maintains a clean three-dimensional appearance.
The objective of post-production is not to make the product look artificial, but to present it at its best while keeping the result accurate, professional and suitable for eCommerce, catalogues, advertising and brand content.
Bottle Photography for eCommerce, Advertising & Campaigns
Bottle photography can be approached differently depending on where the final images will be used. Clean packshots provide consistent product presentation for eCommerce and catalogues, while more creative lighting and styling can be used for website banners, advertising and campaign imagery.
Our approach is tailored to the bottle, packaging materials, brand presentation and intended use of the final photographs. From clean white-background product images to more polished advertising photography, the focus remains on accurate colour, controlled reflections, clear labels and professional presentation.
