Professional Beauty Product Photography
Cosmetics and skincare products vary considerably in shape, material, finish and packaging. A clear glass serum bottle requires a different lighting approach from a matte cosmetic tube, polished jar, metallic pump or reflective makeup compact.
We tailor the photography setup to each product rather than applying one lighting treatment across every item. Lighting, camera angle, background, reflections and shadow density are adjusted to accurately represent the packaging while maintaining consistency across the wider product range.
Depending on the project, we provide clean eCommerce packshots, grouped product compositions, styled beauty photography and campaign imagery.
Group Cosmetics & Skincare Photography
Group photography is particularly effective for skincare ranges, cosmetic collections, gift sets and coordinated product families.
Where greater control is required, products can be photographed individually under carefully controlled lighting and combined during post-production. This approach provides greater control over sharpness, reflections, scale and positioning, particularly when products vary in height, shape, material or surface finish.
The result is a balanced group composition in which individual products remain clearly defined while the complete range is presented consistently.
Cosmetics & Skincare Product Lighting
Lighting is one of the most technically important elements of cosmetics and skincare photography.
Beauty packaging commonly combines materials such as clear or coloured glass, glossy plastics, metallic components, frosted surfaces, transparent liquids and printed labels. Each material reflects and transmits light differently.
We shape and control the light according to the product so that important features remain visible without distracting glare or uncontrolled reflections. Carefully positioned highlights can define the shape of a bottle or jar, while controlled shadows add dimension and separation.
The objective is not to remove every reflection. It is to create reflections and highlights that describe the product accurately while maintaining clean label visibility, colour and surface detail.
Product Positioning & Photography Angles
The most appropriate photography angle depends on the product design, packaging and intended use of the image.
A front-facing view is commonly used for bottles, tubes, pumps and jars because it provides clear visibility of the brand name, label and overall packaging.
A three-quarter or slightly elevated view can be useful when the top, closure, pump or dimensional shape of the packaging is an important part of the design.
A top-down or flat lay view works particularly well for products such as makeup palettes, powders, open jars, creams and coordinated cosmetic collections.
Packaging, lids, applicators and secondary boxes can also be incorporated where they help explain the complete product.
For eCommerce ranges, we maintain consistent camera height, framing, scale and positioning across products so the collection appears cohesive when displayed together online.
Managing Reflections & Glossy Packaging
Cosmetics and skincare products frequently contain highly reflective materials, including polished glass, glossy plastics, metallic lids, chrome pumps and transparent packaging.
These surfaces can reflect studio equipment, surrounding objects and uncontrolled highlights if the lighting is not carefully managed.
We use diffusion, reflectors and controlled light placement to reduce distracting glare while preserving the highlights that define shape, finish and material. Transparent and translucent products may require additional lighting techniques to retain clean edges and reveal the colour or clarity of the contents.
This controlled approach is particularly important for premium skincare and beauty packaging where subtle surface finishes and packaging details contribute strongly to the product presentation.
Attention to Product Details
Small details can become highly visible in professional product photography.
We pay close attention to label alignment, cap and pump positioning, packaging seams, printed text, surface texture, colour, product shape and other design features.
Dust, fingerprints and minor imperfections are addressed during preparation and retouching where appropriate, while colour correction helps maintain accurate and consistent product representation.
For products where texture or contents form an important part of the presentation, additional detail images or open-product views can be photographed to show features that may not be visible in a standard front-facing packshot.
Cosmetics & Skincare Photography Post-Production
Post-production is an important part of creating clean and consistent cosmetics and skincare imagery.
After photography, images are professionally reviewed and refined. Depending on the product and project requirements, post-production may include:
dust and minor blemish removal
colour correction
background removal
reflection refinement
label and packaging clean-up
alignment and cropping
tonal adjustment
perspective correction
consistency across the complete product range
The objective is to refine the photograph while maintaining an accurate representation of the product rather than creating an artificial or unrealistic result.
Final files are prepared according to their intended use, including high-resolution images for print and advertising, web-optimised files for eCommerce and transparent PNG files where required.
